Casey attends creditors meeting in Tampa today

.

From News13: TAMPA — The Casey Anthony storm has come and gone at the federal courthouse in Tampa as she met with the creditors in her bankruptcy case.

Casey hid her face from a flurry of photographers as her attorney, Cheney Mason, walked her under his arm through the crowd to the front door of the courthouse around 10:30 a.m. Monday, three hours ahead of her 1:30 p.m. hearing. She left just before 2:30 p.m.

Casey pulled up in the back of a black SUV. She was wearing a large-brimmed hat in an attempt to cover her face. Only Mason and an unidentified driver were in the vehicle with her.

The driver was not allowed to use the courthouse’s garage to drive under the building. Casey was made to walk in the front door, just like everyone else.

Cheney Mason had his arm around Casey, shielding her face from the cameras. Casey was wearing a black jacket. Her hair is dark, about shoulder-length.

Mason is not representing Casey in her bankruptcy hearing. It appears he accompanied Casey to court to show his support and protect her from the media.

In the meeting room, Casey sat between her civil attorney Charles Green and bankruptcy attorney David Schrader. She wore a cream, “flowy” top and high-waisted skirt with black high heels. She wore black nail polish.

Casey rarely answered any question without consulting with Greene. She was said to speak with confidence during the meeting.

Only one creditor was at the meeting to question her. Scott Shuker, the attorney for Zenaida Gonzalez, was in attendance.

An exchange between Shuker and Greene got heated when Greene was accused of prompting Casey on how to answer questions before she would speak.

Shuker snapped at Greene saying “you don’t get to answer questions. You are not under oath.” Green responded by saying “take a deep breath Mr. Shuker.”

Casey said she lives off of gift cards and cash given to her, estimated at less than $2,000.

When asked about photographs transferred to former attorney Jose Baez, Casey said she sent “a few photos for him to sell to use to pay the defense.” Casey said Baez sold the pictures to ABC News in 2008 for $200,000.

Casey filed for bankruptcy in Florida in late January, claiming about $1,000 in assets and $792,000 in liabilities. Court papers list Casey as unemployed, with no recent income.

Casey said she has no bank account, no car and takes a bus when she has to go somewhere. She said that friends and council arrange her living arrangements.

When asked how she pays to eat, Casey said, “I try to can contribute when I can.”

Casey said she has a computer given to her by Baez. She said she has multiple email addresses.

Casey said a friend pays for her cell phone.

Casey has not made any public appearances since she left jail after being acquitted in 2011.

Casey said she has not been out of the state of Florida for more than 30 days over the last 5 years.

Creditors now have 120 days to file a lawsuit to stop Casey’s bankruptcy.

On the list of people she may owe money to include Baez. She could owe him up to $500,000. Also on the list is Zenaida Gonzalez, the woman suing Anthony for defamation and Roy Kronk, the meter reader who found Caylee’s body in the woods.

Team Casey to appeal lying convictions today (1/8)

Attorneys for Casey Anthony will make oral arguments Tuesday in Daytona Beach in her appeal of four convictions of lying to law enforcement officers, court documents show.

The 1:30 p.m. hearing at the 5th District Court of Appeal will address Anthony’s concerns about having being convicted of lying to law enforcement officers. The convictions came from her telling investigators that her daughter was kidnapped when she knew 2-year-old Caylee Anthony was dead, Orange County sheriff’s investigators said.

Casey Anthony, accused of murdering her daughter, was acquitted by a jury July 5, 2011, of charges of first-degree murder, aggravated manslaughter and aggravated child abuse.

Her attorneys will argue that Judge Belvin Perry made an error in not suppressing Casey Anthony’s statements to an investigator, which she made without her rights being read to her.

Casey Anthony’s lawyers, Cheney Mason and Lisabeth Fryer, will also argue that Casey Anthony’s consitutional double jeopardy rights were violated when she was convicted of four counts of lying to law enforcement officers, court documnets filed show.

Casey - Piers TV 6-13-2012

News report from WFTV:

Casey Piers WFTV 6-13-2012

From CF-NEWS13.com:

“Casey Anthony spoke out in an off-camera interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan, revealing more than she ever has publicly.

She talked about her daughter Caylee for the first time since she was acquitted in the toddler’s death nearly a year ago.

Morgan said she reached out saying “Obviously, I didn’t kill my daughter.”

“She said to me ‘the caricature of me that is out there, it couldn’t be further from the truth,'” Morgan said.

When Morgan asked her what she was most self-critical about, she told him:

“Not being honest. I didn’t trust law enforcement. I didn’t give them the benefit of the doubt which is part of the reason they didn’t give me the benefit of the doubt.”

She also talked about the jailhouse video recordings of her visits with her family, saying:

“I’ve looked back at some of the interviews in the way that I’ve come across. It looks absolutely horrible and I’m ashamed in many ways of the person that I was.”

What is life like now for Casey Anthony?

Her attorney, Cheney Mason, was on the program, saying even though she is free, she is living in what he calls “a different kind of prison.”

Mason also said Casey was not out there selling her story, but “when the time comes she will have her story to tell.”

Mason said Casey was currently reading the Hunger Games trilogy, among other things to stay entertained in her life in hiding.

Casey also dispelled some rumors, saying she does not weight 500 pounds. Mason added that she likely barely weighs 120 pounds.  Casey also said she was not moving to Costa Rica.

It was just a day ago when Cheney Mason filed an appeal for Casey Anthony on the conviction that she lied to law enforcement.”

Team Casey file appeal to dismiss LE charges

From CF-NEWS13.com:

*** Click here to read the 29 page motion (opens PDF in new window) ***

“Casey Anthony’s attorney Cheney Mason filed an appeal to dismiss the charges she faces for lying to law enforcement.

Casey’s lawyers filed an appeal with the Fifth District Court of Appeals in Daytona Beach which deals with the outstanding four counts Anthony was convicted of lying to law enforcement officers.

The appeal was filed around 1:30 p.m. In it, Casey Anthony’s lawyer, Cheney Mason, claimed Casey gave the statements in question to law enforcement officers in 2008 before she was even read her Miranda rights by any of Orange County Sheriff’s investigators. The court determined those statements were lies.

Mason also argued she should’ve been charged with only one count of lying to officers, not four counts. He said three of those counts are double jeopardy, since each count stems from the same single offense. Mason said her lawyers filed motions to suppress those statements during her trial, but those motions were denied. That is why Mason is appealing at the Fifth District Court of Appeals.

It was almost three years ago that Casey told Orange County deputies the following:

  • That she worked at Universal Orlando Resort in 2008,
  • That she left Caylee with a babysitter named Zenaida Gonzalez,
  • That she told Jeffrey Hopkins and Juliette Lewis that Caylee was missing
  • That she spoke to Caylee on the phone on July 15, 2008.

Casey was charged and convicted of a separate count for each statement. She was fined $1,000 for each count, totaling $4,618 after court costs. She was sentenced to one year of probation.”

Cheney Mason to accept subpoena for Casey

From CF-NEWS13.com:

“We have confirmed one of Casey’s criminal attorneys, Cheney Mason, will accept the subpoena on her behalf and give it to her, himself.  That means Casey’s whereabouts will remain a secret from the public.

Casey Anthony has been in hiding since she was released from jail in July 2011. But Judge Lisa Munyon ruled earlier in May that attorneys for Zenaida Gonzalez could subpoena Casey to court.

Casey Anthony’s civil trial is currently scheduled to begin the first week fo January 2013.”
