SJ, et. al,
I’m sure you’re familiar with Dr. Glass, the body language expert that has had so much to say about Casey during and after this trial. While, I think most of what she says is fitting the evidence to her conclusion, there’s something I notice here which makes me wonder what she would say about it.
Take a look at part 6 of 18, starting at the 7:00 mark. This is the segment where Baez addresses the computer forensic reports, specifically keying in on the claim of 84 searches for chloroform (or chlorophyll as pertinent to the particular testimony being recounted). You’ll notice something very telling that all of us have seen in others and probably have noticed in ourselves. You will notice that LDB makes a drastic change in her body language. While her facial expression remains stoic, something we expect from lawyers, but especially given the law that Judge Perry had laid down. She cannot steady her body. She begins fidgeting — swaying side to side in her chair. It is the same tell so many of us have when a deceit has been revealed. Anyone having sat in any meeting/assembly where the boss/authority is expressing displeasure has done this. Whenever the person speaking is pointing out an action/behavior that they are not pleased with and you now you are guilty of that action or behavior, it is an involuntary reaction. It says, “I have done that. I know he is talking about me. I know I have been caught.” It is a forced attempt to appear relaxed and calm when in fact, when she is nervous and hoping that all the eyes around her are not falling to her, hoping that no one sees the emotions of guilt she is desperately trying to conceal.
I’m no expert, but I’ve seen the look hundreds of times and I’ve expressed it quite a few times in my life — all those times when I did something wrong but my mom didn’t know which of us kids did it and I wasn’t about to confess
